Thirty five materials, and how each one behaves

Material choice decides how a product feels, how long it lasts and what can honestly be claimed about it. This section covers the fibres, metals and finishes we work with, from organic cotton and rPET through to aluminium, borosilicate glass, ceramic and oak.

Written for the buyer who has to specify

Alpaca wool comes with micron grades of 18 to 22 for scarves and throws, 22 to 26 for sweaters and hats and 26 to 30 for heavier knitwear, in 22 or more natural shades. Aluminium comes as anodised, recycled or plain, and glass as borosilicate or standard, each with its own decoration route and its own cost.

Minimums follow the decoration method rather than the material alone, with embroidery from 50 pieces, woven jacquard from 250 and a leather patch from 100. Runs of 50 to 250 pieces cover most material choices, and every textile option carries an OEKO-TEX Standard 100 certificate, with GOTS or GRS where the fibre allows it.
